JPEG130 × 170 pixels20 KB to 50 KB

TNPSC asks for the photograph as a JPEG of 3.5 x 4.5 cm (130 x 170 pixels) between 20 KB and 50 KB, with your name and the date printed at the bottom. An image that small is only a few KB, so it is padded up to the minimum without changing it.

Getting a TNPSC photo to 130 x 170 and 20 KB to 50 KB

TNPSC's Instructions to Applicants ask for a colour studio photo on a white background, 4.5 cm high and 3.5 cm wide, which they give as 170 x 130 pixels. Your name and the date the photo was taken must be printed at the bottom, and the date must be on or after the date of the notification. The file is a JPEG between 20 KB and 50 KB, saved as Photograph.jpg.

This page crops the photo to 130 x 170 pixels where you place the crop box and saves it at the best quality under 50 KB. A photo that small is usually under 20 KB, so it is padded up to the minimum with an invisible comment inside the file. The photo is exactly the same.

Tips

  • Get the name and date printed on the photo at the studio. This page does not add text.
  • Place the crop box so it keeps the name and date strip at the bottom: TNPSC wants your face to take about 3 cm of the 4.5 cm height and the strip the rest.
  • TNPSC refuses selfies and phone photos, so upload a scan or the studio's digital copy.
  • Save the result as Photograph.jpg before you upload it.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark.

What happens to my file?

It is processed on our server and deleted automatically: the original 5 minutes after the run finishes, the compressed file after 10. A file you upload but never compress is deleted within 30 minutes. You can also delete everything right away with Delete now.

Will it look worse?

We try a lossless cleanup first, which does not change how the file looks. Only if that is not enough do we lower image quality, and we pick the gentlest setting that still fits your size.

What if my file cannot get that small?

You get the smallest version we could make and a clear note saying so, instead of a file that silently misses the limit.

Why is my file a little under the limit I picked?

Some sites count a kilobyte as 1000 bytes and others as 1024. We aim under the stricter one, so a 200 KB page aims for 200,000 bytes and the file passes either way.
